If you've got a little more to spend on your monthly mobile bill, you're in for a treat. Data inclusions on plans under $30 have shot sky-high in the last few months and we're now regularly seeing plans in this price range with more than 20GB of data.
Note that some of the plans shown come with upfront bonus data - especially when it comes to prepaid - which means you won't continue to bag that amount of data every month. To take full advantage of a plan with a big upfront data bonus, think about choosing one with data banking or data rollover.
Cheap phone plans with unlimited data
Nearly every phone plan these days comes with unlimited talk and text. But recently the Australian market has started to see plans with unlimited mobile data too. When they first appeared on the market, prices for these plans were high, but they're already starting to come down: Vodafone and Optus will both do unlimited data on a SIM only plan for as little as $40 per month, while Telstra's unlimited data plans start at $55 per month.
It's important to note these plans aren't strictly unlimited. They have a fixed amount of full-speed data, followed by unlimited data with capped speeds.
Telstra and Optus will both slow your speeds to just 1.5Mbps once you chew through your allotted data allowance. While this should be enough to stream standard definition videos and browse the web, you may notice a difference during peak times.
Vodafone now offer three tiers of "Infinite" data - Lite, Super and Ultra. Lite plans have unlimited data speeds capped at 2Mbps, Super speeds are slowed to 10Mbps while Ultra is at 25Mbps.

Note that while new Optus customers on eligible postpaid plans will already have unlimited data included with their plans, existing customers can opt-in using the My Optus app.
With Optus, you can also still pay for additional full-speed data to get you through to the end of your bill. The prices are as follows:
- 2GB: $5
- 10GB: $10
- 30GB: $20
Additionally, you can pay $5 to add unlimited data to your plan for 24 hours. This unlimited data offer doesn't have a speed cap - you can use it at full Optus network speeds, on both 4G and 5G.
The Unlimited Data Day Add-on is available to Optus customers on postpaid plans and prepaid customers on recharge worth at least $30. It can be purchased through the My Optus app. While Optus plans typically support data sharing, the unlimited data add-on cannot be shared. It can only be used in Australia.
